Mealime alternatives: which meal planning app fits your household?
With Mealime ending on October 21, 2026, here are seven apps that can take over your meal planning, compared by how you actually cook and shop.
Mealime is moving its recipes into Meals Hub, a free section inside the Albertsons Companies grocery store apps such as Safeway. If you shop there, that is the closest thing to staying put. If you would rather keep meal planning separate from one grocery chain, you need a new home for it. Mealime did two jobs: it handed you recipes and it wrote the grocery list. Some apps below do the first, some the second, a few do both. We make Matredo and wrote this page. That is why Matredo comes last, and the facts about the others come from their own sites.
Seven apps, seven different strengths
Meals Hub
For Mealime users who shop at Safeway, Albertsons or another store in that family.
Strength: Free, and Mealime says all its recipes carry over, plus thousands more. Meal plans turn into a grocery list.
Good to know: It lives inside the Albertsons Companies store apps and websites, so you sign in with a store account.
Samsung Food
For people who liked having recipes built in and want to stay on a free plan.
Strength: Over 240,000 public recipes, saves recipes from any website, and builds a shared grocery list from a weekly plan.
Good to know: AI-personalized weekly plans, pantry and nutrition tracking are part of the paid Food+ plan.
Eat This Much
For people who want the plan generated to calorie and macro targets.
Strength: Generates meal plans from its own recipes to match your calorie and macro goals.
Good to know: Planning a full week at a time and the automatic grocery list are Premium features.
Plan to Eat
For cooks who already have their own recipes and want a calendar planner.
Strength: Imports recipes from websites, social media and photos into your own recipe book, then builds the shopping list from the plan.
Good to know: No free plan after the 14-day trial, and it does not provide recipes of its own.
Paprika
For people who want to pay once and keep recipes on their own devices.
Strength: Stores recipes locally and works offline, with a built-in browser for importing and daily, weekly and monthly planners.
Good to know: Each platform is sold separately. Paprika 4, in open beta since September 2026, will put its new premium features behind a subscription.
AnyList
For households that mainly want a shared grocery list.
Strength: Free shared lists, and a recipe's ingredients go onto the list in one step.
Good to know: The meal planning calendar and unlimited recipe imports are part of the paid AnyList Complete plan.
Matredo Our app
For households that cook from their own saved recipes and want plan and list in one place.
Strength: Saves recipes from links, Instagram, TikTok and text. Planned recipes become one shared shopping list, and the Sous Chef assistant helps adapt recipes.
Good to know: No built-in recipe library, so it does not replace Mealime's ready-made recipes, and no Android app yet. The free plan has a weekly import limit and a cap on household members. Scanning recipes from photos is a Premium feature.
Facts checked
How it works
- Work out which Mealime you used. Mealime handed you recipes and wrote the grocery list. If you leaned on its recipes, look for a built-in library. If you mostly cooked your own, look for strong importing.
- Check that everyone can join. Everyone who shops needs to open the app. Confirm it runs on every phone in the household before you move in.
- Run one real week. Save five recipes, plan four dinners and shop from the list. One ordinary week tells you more than any comparison.
Which app fits which household
The households: Seven common starting points
Who should pick what
- You shop at Safeway or Albertsons and want Mealime's recipes to carry over: Meals Hub.
- You want a big free recipe library with a planner: Samsung Food.
- You plan around calories and macros: Eat This Much.
- You have years of your own recipes and want a calendar planner: Plan to Eat.
- You want to pay once and keep recipes on your own devices: Paprika.
- You mainly need a shared grocery list: AnyList.
- Your own recipes, weekly plan and shared list in one place, on iPhone: Matredo.
Why it helps
- You move your recipes once, because the app fits an ordinary week.
- You only pay for what you actually use.
- The whole household lands in the same plan and the same list from day one.
What this comparison is not
We make Matredo, so we are biased. That is why the facts about the other apps are stated the way their makers describe them, with a link to each and the date we checked. Matredo is the wrong pick if you need an Android app today, want ready-made recipes like Mealime's, or want to order groceries inside the app. Prices and features change, so check the app's own page before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to my Mealime account and recipes?
Mealime says it will shut down on October 21, 2026, that personal data is deleted at that point, and that all Mealime recipes remain available in Meals Hub. Pro subscribers are not charged further subscription fees before the shutdown.
What is the closest app to Mealime?
Meals Hub is the official successor and keeps Mealime's recipes. Outside the Albertsons store apps, Samsung Food and Eat This Much are closest in spirit, since both come with recipes built in. On Eat This Much the grocery list is a Premium feature.
Is there a free Mealime alternative?
Meals Hub is free. Samsung Food, Eat This Much, AnyList and Matredo have free plans with paid upgrades. Plan to Eat is subscription only after a trial, and Paprika is a one-time purchase per platform.
Can I move my Mealime recipes into another app?
Mealime's shutdown page does not mention an export. Its recipes stay available in Meals Hub. If there are dishes you cook often, note them down before October 21, 2026, so you can find or rebuild them in whichever app you choose.
Is Matredo available on Android?
Not yet. Matredo runs on iPhone and as a web app in the browser. The other six apps in this comparison all have Android apps.
